BERT receives welcome donation of radios
With good news in very limited supply, we are happy to report tonight that BERT, the Belize Emergency Response Team, has received some much-needed help in its efforts to provide ambulance service during the current civil strife. Following our story on Tuesday night outlining the problems of summoning emergency medical help when the phones are not working, Belize Communication and Security Limited of Belmopan donated five V.H.F. base station radios. These radios, valued at a thousand dollars each, will allow BERT to expand its communication capabilities and enable it to join several existing networks and scan others. While the radios are no substitute for a fully functioning telephone system, the deployment of the new equipment can still mean the difference between life and death. Thanks to B.C.S.L. for that positive contribution, and again to BERT, for always being there.
