P.U.P. Leader Speaks on G12

Francis Fonseca

The People’s United Party is, by all accounts, deeply divided and on Wednesday, all eyes will be on Independence Hall where a meeting of the executive is being called. On Monday, a letter signed by twelve Standard bearers was sent to the Chairman requesting a National Convention at which leader Francis Fonseca would almost certainly be challenged. Those standard bearers and executive members who support Fonseca have circled the wagons around him, and on that same day, the three female standard bearers and other women held a press conference in support of Fonseca’s leadership. It’s a significant period in the history of a party which has lost three consecutive elections just this year. Today, Fonseca and Deputy Leader, Julius Espat, were guests on the Plus TV Morning Show in Belmopan where he made it extremely clear that he won’t tolerate what he says is the undermining of the party.

“It’s a letter they wrote to the Chairman and copied to me. It was a private letter but they themselves leaked it to the media, so I am therefore obliged to speak on it, and I think they have expressed specific concerns which we as a Party have been working on and addressing. There are three issues which we have been talking about and which they have raised – a National convention, the restructuring of the National Executive and the rollout of the policy agenda across the country. All of these things we have been working on for a very long time, so it is not clear to me where this is coming from now. But let me say that we will be addressing this issue. We received the letter yesterday and we will be convening a meeting on Wednesday to bring all Standard Bearers together so that we can discuss this issue in a very responsible way. All of our Standard Bearers are important to me. We want all of them to be involved and engaged in the work of the Party. So we will be fair. We will be fair, that is our approach. We will be respectful but we will also be firm. Because people want to see that we have one Party that is working towards the same objective and that is rescuing this nation from this U.D.P. government. People out there don’t have any time to be paying attention to the games that some people are playing within the P.U.P.  People have very little patience for that. They don’t want to hear that. They want to hear that we are fighting together, that we are working together, that we have an agenda for change and that’s why we are here today to talk about that agenda, so I have very little patience for that.”

Its Funny How all of a Sudden These people are demanding a National Convention when in reality no conventions have been called for a long time. They were the one’s that enjoyed when Francis passed a rule that no one could contest any of the area reps. They were just appointed and ppl had no say. Ask Aberlardo Mai in Orange Walk South…he cannot be contested thanks to Francis and now he stabs Francis with his own weapon. I am sure we have more capable persons that are from Orange Walk south and can contest a convention against Mr, Jose Mai who does not even live in Orange Walk South Actually he is from Orange Walk Central.
Its a pitty how he takes decision on behalf of Orange Walk South when he has not even consulted the people; the true voters of Orange Walk South. As a voter and resident of Orange Walk south I am sure the people prefer Francis to Stay as the Commander but again there are many Judas these days Mr. Francis.

What we want to here is that the party [ PUP} needs a competent leader. You are surrounded with people that are not giving you the correct advice. IN THE RURAL AREAS we do not know you . there is no contact of the leadership and the people. It seems that you do not want to come out of the city. To me it seems that you did not learned from the late Hon. George Price.

And obviously the people have very little patience for your party as it is now, thats why your party gets beat resoundingly and repeatedly. You said it right there, you all have been talking and working a “very long time”. Because thats ALL you do. Talk and talk and no action.
