P.U.P. Party Leader Meets with G-Eleven

Francis Fonseca

A group of P.U.P. standard, informally dubbed the G-eleven, continues to boycott party functions. On Sunday, when a consultation was held in Big Falls, they were not there. The eleven, which includes powerhouse politicians John Briceno, Cordel Hyde and Dan Silva, is agitating for change within the P.U.P. and by change they mean a restructuring of the National Executive and the holding of a National Convention ASAP. Of course, it’s no secret that a National Convention means that there would be a serious challenge to Fonseca’s leadership. This is all just the latest upheaval in a party which hasn’t been able to get it together since losing general elections in 2008. So, will they be able to mount a credible campaign for the next general elections, likely later this year? That’s anybody’s guess at this point.

Francis Fonseca, P.U.P. Leader

“I have met with the eleven standard bearers. We have agreed upon a process which I believe will lead to a resolution of whatever difference we have between and among us. I am confident that that process will work. I am prepared to give it a fair opportunity to work, and at the end of that process I think we will see a much strong, untied People’s United Party. So that is the process that we have to see through. Secondly, I think your question affords me if you like the opportunity to make a very clear distinction between us in the P.U.P. and Dean Barrow and the U.D.P.  We don’t try to attack and destroy people who criticize us. And I certainly don’t do that. That is the practice in the United Democratic Party. I am not going to attack or criticize Dr. Smith or anyone else. We are, as he said, free thinkers in the P.U.P., and he has every right to his views, but at the end of the day we are one Party and we must respect the decisions of our Party. So we will have a dialogue, we will have a discussion, and we will certainly try to resolve whatever differences exist among us and between us. But at the end of the day when our final decisions are made, we ask and we expect that everyone will respect and abide by those decisions.”

I hope this discussion works. We do not want another PUP government like the last one. Put Bricenio and Cordel as deputies. With them we can feel better that there will be check and balance and the voters will be more confident of a new PUP government. For the case of Hon Said Musa , he is an experience state man of which a new PUP government can benefit and of course he is a sure winner in his constituent .

Doesn’t seem like Belize is forgiving the PUP, not even after 7 years (2008-2015).
I guess it takes more than 7 years for an old party to turn around their old ship.
Belize is demanding the PUP to still come cleanER!! if they want a chance to win the next elections.
PUP is still hiding their dirty dusty closet, even after it consistently releases bad odor.

And it will be 8 years soon. I guess the “lee breeze” turned out to be a hurricane after all. Like i said also, this upcoming election is PUP’s election to lose, and if they can’t show real change, they will again. And please try to grow balls where its obvious the UDP has very little of.
