Wil Maheia Challenges B.D.F. to Build F.O.B. at Sarstoon

Brigadier General Jones has gone on record to say that the mutual relationship between the Guatemalan and Belizean armed forces is now vulnerable, thanks to the unsolicited trek to Sarstoon Island. On the other hand, BTV’s founding member Wil Maheia is asking a rather pointed question, how have Belizean men, women and children bearing the country’s standard imperiled the rapport that the B.D.F. has established with the Guatemalan navy. According to Maheia, Commander Jones’ reasoning that his men would be exposed to dengue and other illnesses should an F.O.B. be erected in the area doesn’t hold water.

“Hearing the commander making statements that it is almost impossible to build on the banks of the Sarstoon River tells me a lot about the knowledge the commander has about the grounds in this country. Secondly, I would like to point out to the commander that he could check the records, there are more dengue cases in Belize city than on the banks of the Sarstoon. So when he said that it’s bad for him to put his men there because there is threat that they’ll be killing mosquitoes and there’s a chance that they’ll catch dengue, I would say if you don’t want your guys to catch dengue move them out of Belize City and put them at the Sarstoon. As a member of the BTV, as part of the BTV, I want the Belizean public to know today, because it’s not the first time that they have said to the Belizean public that the B.D.F. makes weekly Tuesday patrols on the Sarstoon River, well take note B.D.F., the BTV will be there with you. As from now, as long as we could afford it, and this is where Belizeans come in to kick in to our fuel bill, we will be going to the mouth of the Sarstoon River every Tuesday. I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that between now and the Twenty-first [of September] we will be making two more trips to our borders. Another correction I would like to make to the commander of the B.D.F., I find it strange that by carrying a flag, without any guns, no weapons, that we endanger the lives of the B.D.F.”
What kind of Military do we have in our country? Can you imagine that? This guy is worried about his men killing flys from Dengue? How the hell can I depend on them to protect our country by killing the enemies when he’s worried about dying from Dengue? What the hell, be prepared at all times idiot.
Brigadier General Jones, we the civilian taxpayer would like to make you aware that is is us that pay your salary to defend us and our nation not to sit back in an air conditioned office but to go out in the field and do the job you are supposed to do. It is because you have not been doing your job that we have problems not because of the territorial volunteers. When the British patrolled the Sarstoon we did not have that problem so why now? Is it because you refuse to send soldiers down there because you are afraid of mosquitos or maybe Guats? I challenge you and the prime minister to hold this year’s Independence ceremony from Sarstoon Island to prove that the country is still intact as you claim. Can you please also explain to me why as a citizen of Belize you do not want me to go to Gracias Adios or Jalacte or Aguas Turbias or Garbutt Falls? What else is off limits to me within my own country?
I think many more F.O.B. buildings should be built all along the border between Guatemala and Belize and Mexico as well. I also think they should have been built long ago. A secure border is a good thing for the country.
