Northern Territorial Volunteers Meet with PM Barrow
This morning, three representatives from the Northern Territorial Volunteers met with Prime Minister Dean Barrow at his Belize City office. The NTV is a different entity from the Belize Territorial Volunteers, but they work closely together and share similar goals. When they emerged from the meeting just before midday, NTV leader Giovanni de la Fuente told us that the primary purpose of the meeting was to brief the Prime Minister on the goals and objectives of the Northern Territorial Volunteers. The discussion also touched on the areas of education and awareness of the history and border markers of the country to enhance knowledge and patriotism.
Giovanni de la Fuente, Head, Northern Territorial Volunteers
“We as a group are not mandated to be doing all kinds of things. Our only function is to take Belizeans to their border markers and to try and educate Belizeans about their border markers on the western front of Belize. So we explained our determination to the Prime Minister that these field trips or expeditions will not stop. It will continue, and we will continue to work with any Belizean group that is willing to participate in these activities. So yes we did explain to him and we told him that it’s quite possible in a few weeks the NTV will be embarking on another expedition to the Garbutt’s Falls border monument which is in the Benque Viejo area. So most definitely we have not compromised our position. We will not stop in our process of taking Belizeans to our border. The Prime Minister is knowledgeable of that fact and he knows that we will continue on these trips.”
