George Street Affiliate Accidentally Shot by His Colleague

A sixteen-year-old Belize City youth is tonight fighting for his life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot to the abdomen on Thursday night. It occurred inside the Queen Square Primary School compound on Fairweather Street. Sixteen-year-old Mark Phillips, a well known affiliate of the George Street Gang, was shot by one of two other friends with whom he was hanging with. According to police, the trio was waylaying another person, who they were going to assault with a nine millimeter and a point thirty-eight handgun. However, Phillips was shot accidentally by his friend whose gun was malfunctioning. The group scattered and Phillips was later found and rushed to the K.H.M.H. for treatment. He, along with his two friends, is tonight in police custody and will be charged for aggravated assault. Regional Commander for the Eastern Division South, Senior Superintendent Chester Williams explains what transpired.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“Apparently, this victim in the company of two other friends, or colleagues of his, were in the compound of the Anglican School awaiting somebody and they subsequently came into contact with the person who they were awaiting. Both of them were armed—one with a nine millimeter and the other with a thirty-eight pistol—apparently, the one with the thirty-eight tried to shoot this person that they were awaiting for and the gun snapped. When the gun snapped, he was playing with the gun to try to get it to work and in the same process, he shot his own colleague. So then, it was a situation where three friends from a certain area of Belize City were trying to cause harm to another persons and they ended up injuring themselves.”

“So this young man who they were waylaying….”

“Yes, this is not a person who is a troublemaker and the persons involved, Mark Phillips, is a person who is well known to the police. He has been charged several times by the police before and he is a sixteen year old and it goes to what I have been saying before; that parents need to learn to take control of their children. These children at this age should not be on the streets especially armed with a gun. No, the firearms were not recovered. After the one who got shot was shot, the three of them scaled out of the school, jump the fence and someone who was around took the one who was shot to the hospital. Apparently, there was some situation with the relative of this other person. But I guess because they couldn’t catch Harry, they tried to catch his shirt. And that is the situation; this person is not a troublemaker.”

“Will the victim be charged with any offense? Will the person who shot him be charged with any offense?”

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams

“Well I will tell you that the victim, though in hospital, he is a prisoner and he will be charged along with the others for aggravated assault on this person who they went to try and shoot as soon as he is released from the hospital.”

“And the person whose gun jammed and ended up shooting the victim, will he be…”

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams

“Yeah, he will be charged for aggravated assault as well against the same person who they went after last night. But in relation to the shooting of the friend, that will depend if the friend makes a complaint which I am certain will not happen. But we will still look at the possibility of charging him for discharging firearm in public.”

Two persons apart from Mark Phillips remain in police custody; they are expected to be charged shortly.

Each time I read the news from Belize, I get sick. I don’t even know why I do so. But it serves you ignorant, illiterate $%^&* who continue to think that free handouts and getting humiliated by some of these ministers is life. You, Chester, sound like a total idiot. The money you hustled from bribes and corruption should have been put to better use than you going abroad to come back with a certificate. I already blogged a few days ago that one teacher at SJC Sixth form should have let your stupid $%^&*( fail, instead of taking extra time to guide you through. Now, let’s take into evaluation what you stated; I guess if the dissemination of the crime was successful, it would have been a different news piece. In the US, all three of them would have been charged with a felony. You know what that would have gotten them? At least 15-20 years. Their intent was to kill someone. If I were working in that hospital, which I recently thought about volunteering service but quickly changed my mind because of the ineptitude from top to bottom, corruption, jealousy and gross lack of basic necessities, I would have let him lay right there and meet his maker. Imagine, at sixteen years old, “he’s well known to the police.” That means he’s been problems and he has no value on life and his should have no value either. They say that one should not be judge, juror, nor executioner but if I implore some of those doctors who I’m friends with at that hospital, let this %^&*() scum of the earth go meet his maker. I digress.
