Former U.D.P. Minister Melvin Hulse Resigns

Melvin Hulse

It hasn’t been a great week for the United Democratic Party, which came under fire on Monday from former U.D.P. Minister Hubert Elrington. Apparently its reunion week for former Ministers and this morning senior Party personality Melvin Hulse announced his resignation from the U.D.P., effective immediately. Hulse had become persona non grata in the U.D.P. after a clandestine recording in which he spoke ill of Prime Minister Dean Barrow. He was removed and replaced as Stann Creek West Standard Bearer. But Hulse is not going quietly into that goodnight, and was a guest on Love FM’s morning show today, where he said that it’s time for him and the U.D.P. to part ways for good.

“I have decided that I reached a point…no use I quarrel with you anymore. We’re on a different page. My loyalty is to help grassroots people. How much every day we hear about we’re putting systems in, put systems in and people can’t get their purchase prices, can’t get their titles. I have people who have paid for their titles years ago – can’t get lease, can’t get that, can’t get education help, can’t get electricity, can’t get pipes for water expansion…that dah noh weh dis country is about yu know. I just need to sensitize my former colleagues that they deh run for elections, and if I see lee injustice deh go on, and I see lee things, they can’t fault me with coming to the media to expose it, yu know, because a lot has happened over the last seven years, yu know.”

I hope and pray that other Ministers will come out of the mess too and seek the good of the people and the country as they pledged to do before they got into positions of authority. Too much abuse of power!

a wise decision before the time is too short for you Mr. Hulse, finally some of you guys in high chairs are seeing the downfall from up there and already are trying to come down before we start to point more fingers up there. Hope that the present go.b all ministers included start to realize we Belizeans ain’t swallowing every crap you throw at us now.
