Canada Selects Team to Battle Belize Jaguars
Canada’s twenty-two man roster has been selected ahead of a two-game home and away series against the Belize Jaguars in the third round of World Cup Qualifiers. On Thursday, veteran midfielders Will Johnson and Atiba Hutchinson returned to the Canucks and are scheduled to play at BMO Field in Toronto and at the F.F.B. Stadium in Belmopan on September fourth and eighth, respectively. Leading the team is twenty-year-old Cyle Larin, who has already scored three goals for Canada going into the third round. The winner of the series advances to the semifinal round of qualifying in the CONCACAF region which includes Mexico, Honduras, as well as the winner of a series between El Salvador and Curacao. As of August sixth, Canada’s male national team ranks one hundred and one, up two spaces in FIFA’s overall ranking. On the home front, the Jaguars, presently at a hundred and eighteen, Belize’s highest FIFA ranking thus far, have been hard at work, training rigorously for the upcoming challenge.
Best wishes for our Jaguars, hoping that they can win this or at least tie for some points there.
