Trio of Fisherman Missing at Sea, Families Fear the Worst
A trio of Belize City fishermen remains lost at sea tonight after being reported missing by friends and family over the weekend. What should have been a routine one-day trip to Turneffe Island almost a week ago has become a nightmare for the Usher family whose loved one, along with two others, have disappeared at sea. The men set out in an eighteen-foot Mexican launch on August twenty-seventh and haven’t been seen or heard from since. Twenty-year-old Donovan Usher is of East Indian descent and stands at approximately five feet, six inches tall. On the right side of his neck is a tattoo with the inscription ‘Rest in Peace Dominique’. His brother-in-law, twenty-nine-year-old Giovanni Murrillo was last seen wearing a grey, three-quarter length Dickies pants and a white t-shirt, while Jerome Betson Bowen is described as dreadlocked, with the gang insignia ‘twenties’ tattooed across his stomach. The words ‘Thug Life’ are also etched in ink on his right hand. On July third, Murrillo and Bowen were remanded to the Belize Central Prison along with four others after being busted with a hundred and eighty-three undersized lobsters. The men were also found in possession of a firearm, ammunition and illegal drugs. Murrillo, who has a history of run-ins with the law, was acquitted of the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm in 2014 after allegedly opening fire on coastguard personnel at sea.
