G-Eleven Kisses and Makes Up with P.U.P. Leadership

The People’s United Party issued a release today signalling that it is closing ranks following a tumultuous period of internal rift.  A meeting was held today at Burrell Boom between P.U.P. Leader, Francis Fonseca, and the G-Eleven, excluding Dan Silva, the standard bearer from Cayo Central who is not in Belize. This afternoon, the P.U.P. sent out a release saying that at the conclusion of the meeting both sides agreed to a process and structure to address the concerns raised by the G-Eleven. Now, of the three main concerns, the sticking point was about an open national convention to all positions in the part, including the leadership. It was agreed that the party will hold an open convention, but it is not yet known if anyone will challenge the leadership given the real possibility of an early national election. The configuration of the executive was also considered and it was agreed that it will be reshaped to put the best team forward. It also means that the G-Eleven members will return to party events. According to the release, “…all Standard Bearers committed to working fully with the Party Leader and other Standard Bearers of the Party in advancing the Party’s agenda of Reform and Change and to unify against the corruption, mismanagement and incompetence of this U.D.P. government.” Notably, the leader met alone with the group, which includes personalities such as: Cordel Hyde, John Briceño, Paul Thompson, Doctor Francis Smith, Gregorio “Papas” Garcia, Josue Carballo, Abi Mai and Elito Arceo.
