How Will Social Issues Affect Election Outcome?
So, where does the P.U.P. stand on the issues of Petrocaribe spending, the nationalization settlements of B.T.L. and B.E.L. as well as the Belize/Guatemala dispute? Well, according to Fonseca, that’s for the people to decide on Election Day. As it concerns the division within the party, Fonseca says that team of thirty-one is united in its collective effort to remove the UDP from office.
Francis Fonseca, Leader, People’s United Party
“I think all of them are critical issues. I think Petrocaribe, of course, the government will spend everything in their coffers, all the Petrocaribe monies. But it’s clear to all Belizeans that one of the reasons the elections is being called is because the Petrocaribe monies are running out, drying up, one and two the issue of nationalization, this is an issue that is of great concerns to many, many Belizeans, many Belizeans. And again, the government is at it again, just this last week they gave very quick nationality to several hundred people, again for the purposes of trying to register them for election purposes. So it’s a big issue, it is tied to the immigration scandal, people will be reminded of the Penner scandal, the corruption that took place there. So immigration, nationalization, all of these things are very, very critical issues and the Guatemala issue, as I said, is a big issue. It is a headline issue in this campaign. The government’s failure, Mr. Barrow’s personal failure as prime minister, Sedi Elrington’s personal failure as the Minister of Foreign Affairs to properly deal with and manage this issue. They have failed the Belizean people. Across the country people believe that this government has not fulfilled its first duty and obligation to defend the territorial integrity, to defend the national sovereignty of Belize and I think on November fourth people will come out in record numbers to vote against this failure.”

“Finally from me sir, could I ask if you expect any fallout from the recent situation with the G-Eleven? I know that they have come back into the fold.”
Francis Fonseca
“No, none at all. I don’t expect that at all, we are all united in our efforts to get rid of this UDP government. I think that unifies us, that unites greater than anything, any differences that exist among us. That unifies us, we understand that the Belizean people are depending on a united People’s United Party to fight for them, to go out and win this election for them.”
But you need to mix internal problems first. you can get this into your big head Sir? How can you win an election like this ? you think we will take out a horse and out a mule. people still have fresh in their mind what the previous PUP did. We need to be sure that we are not getting the same PUP again. We need PUP deputies like Johny, Cordel or Dan to keep the leader from dropping into the same hole again. Please assure use that you will do this before general election so that we can vote for a PUP rep in our area.

Of course getting rid of the UPD government unifies the PUP, but it’s cheap!
