U.B. Faculty and Staff Demand 14% Salary Adjustment
From the B.E.W.U. to the S.S.B. to U.B. …where we are told faculty and staff have given President of the institution Alan Slusher one week to respond to their demands for a fourteen percent salary adjustment. Those employees point out that just like public officers, in 2003 they received a raise and again, just like public officers, in 2005 they were affected by the salary freeze. The letter informs President Slusher that, “we therefore consider that a similar fourteen percent raise is a viable threshold from which you can start and we look forward to your feedback.” The importance of the approaching elections isn’t lost on the faculty and staff. They give Slusher a deadline of a week, but state that, “In the meantime we are also obliged to continue our plans to publicly demonstrate our resolve to improve our wages package in the event that intervention at your, and the Board’s level appear not to be efficacious.” In case you’re not getting it…that’s strike talk.
While we were there out under the hot sun demonstrating for a salary adjustment, where were these people now asking for salary adjustment . They should have join us in the move. Did they think they were going to get a free ride again? To get what you want you have to show your face out there. You were afraid of the government of the day. Now do your own thing now. I hope Mr. Barrow listen your cry.
