Friends of Pediatrics to Host Clinics at K.H.M.H.

Khandice Tillett

This Sunday at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, Friends of Pediatrics Belize’s World Pediatric Project in collaboration with the national referral hospital will be hosting pediatric clinics. Patients suffering from various kidney ailments as well as appendicitis and chest tumors are asked to attend the free clinics. Two specialists, a pediatric general surgeon and a nephrologist will be in country to hold clinics and perform surgeries. Project Manager Khandice Tillett told News Five today that the mission is to provide patients with pediatric services that are not available locally.

“We are asking patients starting from birth to twenty-one years old that are having problems with their kidneys; that have hypertension; that may have kidney stones; that may have kidney blockage; that may have nephritic syndrome to come out to the clinic and to be seen because we have these specialists coming in. They are pediatric specialists and we don’t have the services here in Belize so it is important that the patients that need to come show up. For general surgery, we are looking at patients that have intestinal blockage; that have tumors; that have hernias that have bladder problems to also show up. It is important because like I said before this service is not available in country. The surgery is free; the consultation is ten dollars contribution to the hospital. But basically we have patients traveling abroad to seek these services and you often see people on the news soliciting funds to get treatments for their child. But we are bringing the specialists here to Belize to offer the free treatment. So I think it is important for those that need to come out to come out. Nephrology is consultation; that will be Sunday and Monday at the K.H.M.H. at eight o’clock. For the general surgery, the screening day is going to be Sunday and it starts at eight. And then from Monday to Thursday is when the patients that are deemed surgical will receive their surgeries free of cost at the K.H.M.H.”
