John Briceño on Lifting of Police Checkpoints

John Briceño

No explanation was provided as to the reason why it is now seen fit to call off established checkpoints. But that decision is not going down well and speculation is rampant that that it is a political move to favor the government.  This morning, we asked the veteran politician and area representative for Orange Walk Central for his take.

John Briceño, Area Rep., Orange Walk Central

“I think it is disgraceful that the Commissioner of Police who supposed to be independent, who should not get involved in partisan politics to be allowed to be manipulated by the UDP government. It is obvious that the U.D.P. bosses have told him that he needs to get rid of all of these checkpoints. We should never ever, ever compromise the safety and the security of our country. Those checkpoints that have been put in place across the length and breadth of this country have been done for a reason because there are issues where people are smuggling guns or they are smuggling drugs or they are doing contraband….illegal activities that should not be tolerated. And now for the U.D.P. government to instruct the Commissioner of Police, because we know it is an instruction, and then for him to instruct the rest of the police department to remove all checkpoints across this country is disgraceful. It is illegal and everybody, every single law abiding citizen of this country should condemn it.”

Duane Moody

“Sir it is kinda like carte blanche…allowing all these criminals to say alright go ahead and do what you want to do.”

John Briceño

“Precisely that’s the point. We can have criminals from all across the country going from when place to the other where they are not known. The police know who they are but without these checkpoints, they have a free pass to be able to move from one end to the next or be able to use to transport drugs into the country or move it out of the country. Or to bring in people illegally or move them out of the country with human trafficking which is a problem in this country. And for the commissioner of police to say because there is an election to remove all of these checkpoints is disgraceful and should be condemned by every single law abiding citizen of this country.”

Very disgraceful about what this government is doing. Leave the check points sir . It is for the security of our country. In fact why should I waste my time. This government has not taken seriously the security of our country. Check the constant flow of illegal people coming into the country, or even through the Chilibul area. People remember when this government was paying gang leader so tht they stop killing people? They are not serious with security. So removing the check points in the highways is just a confirmation of how serious they are about security of our country. Time to save our country is now.
