Belize Dance Company Put Out By Bliss Closure
As we said, one of immediate affected parties is the Belize National Dance Company. The group is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. It was preparing for a celebration concert at the Bliss which would have been held along with a dance exhibit to showcase its journey and add to the overall experience of those in attendance. But that is now not going to happen at the Bliss.
Denese Enriquez, Managing Director, BNDC
“The show cannot happen at the Bliss at this point in time. At the moment, the director of the theatre is out of the country, but I am sure that they will be meeting very soon to discuss the way forward and how they will handle the situation. But in the meantime, we were advised that we would not be able to have the show at the Bliss, which was planned for November seventh and eighth. So the show has been canceled. As I mentioned before, the dance company is celebrating its twenty-fifth year. We’ve been here at the Bliss since our inception and that’s in 1990. At the time, the Bliss was a library and an auditorium and they really didn’t have any bars or mirrors or anything in place and so those had to be installed. And where the chairs are right now, that’s where the dance company used to rehearse. And when the auditorium was renovated in 2002-2003, the studio was built and we were invited to come back. Well we have to celebrate our twenty-fifth anniversary so we still will be doing our dance exhibit and a small performance showcase to go with the exhibit. So it will be a really nice night. We are hoping for it to be in November. We are not sure as to the date yet because we have not secured a venue for that as yet. But as soon as that happens then of course you all will be invited to come in and see it. The dance concert itself has been postponed until January so it will be January thirtieth and I don’t believe that it will be here at the bliss. It will be at another location as well.”
The junior dancers of the company will be hosted at the third floor of Body 2000 on Coney Drive in the interim.
So sad, for the only performance center in the country of Belize to be in shambles especially for their anniversary. What happened to the representative that is in charge of this? Money should have been allocated to have it up and running for this grand celebration.
