Was Immigration Minister Godwin Hulse Involved in Signing of Documents?
Earlier today, we attempted to reach the Minister of Immigration, Godwin Hulse, but he was unavailable. According to Saldivar, the Penner scandal in September 2013 was what broke the camel’s back because the irregular issuance of passports was taking place for some time. And as the documents would show, the Minister of Immigration himself was signing off without the applicants meeting the requirement.
Arthur Saldivar, Attorney
“Certainly many Belizeans at this particular time, considering what has happened in Immigration over the years, want that situation to be closed in relation to the diluting of Belizean citizenship and the way that administrations have been playing fast and loose with our citizenship. So, I believe that it was important for the people to know what was taking place. These are not new documents, these are documents that date back to 2012, but certainly they date back to a time when Minister Hulse was fully aware of all that was going on in Immigration and when he had given all assurances to the people of Belize that what had happened would not occur again.”
As we said we were unable to reach the minister today. Viewers would recall that Minister of Immigration Godwin Hulse went on record to state that applicants, in the aftermath of the immigration scandal, would be carefully scrutinized and subjected to a painstaking process. It seems, nonetheless, that the passport hustle has either continued unabated or there may be another loophole in that so-called revised system.
