Did P.M. Barrow Give Farewell Address to Media Today?

Next week Wednesday, Belizeans will head to the polls to elect a new government, one year and half before the term of the Barrow administration was to expire. At an event today, the media quizzed Prime Minister Barrow on the real possibility that he and his party may not be returned to office for a third term.  Here is Barrow’s response.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Certainly my message to you is that I’m going out smiling. I don’t think I’m going out at all, but if I am, I am going out smiling. I’ve always had an excellent relationship with the media—from time to time there is a little testiness in our back and forth, but that is perhaps as it should be. It shows that there is no powder puffing from your side and where I am concerned why nine times out of ten I would be nothing but gracious. But you know how it is, every so often a little bit of asperity, but no, I have thoroughly enjoyed by interaction with the press, with the media. I have been challenged…it is something that I have to think quickly, I have to react

in a sharp a manner as possible, I have been kept on my toes and have been delighted in the exchange. In terms of the Belizean public, if I don’t come back, thank you. It’s been a wonderful ride; it’s been full of ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I feel that my government has achieved a great deal for the people of the country. There are so many concrete things that I can point to and so there will be no regrets. I will congratulate the Belizean people on whatever decision they make. I am perfectly prepared. If that is there will, that is there wish to return to private life saying a great big heartfelt thank you.”

If I am out, I get to bunk with Penner, Hulse and cabinet in Hattieville.

We could use some vacation time to plot new ways to steal.

I am sure our food will be good, weekend passes, and the prisoners will treat us like royalty, waiting on us hand and foot. Will have better TVs and faster uncensored internet.

If we are voted out, it is a formality. We control it all, all 41 of us.

Time to get rid of UDP and PUP, bring in the Independent Party, tired of corrupt career politicians.

vote for the Belize progressive party! lets give a third choice a chance for once…

Population of Belize too small to have more than two political parties. Other countries like Guatemala can support 5 or 10 political parties because their voting population is over 7 or 8 million voters. we don’t even have the percentage which the least favored candidate got in the last election in Guatemala. So people, think and be real. That the third party can affect the major parties , yes; but how can it affect them, is something to wait and see. I myself would vote for a third party if I knew for sure that they can win to form a new government. If we had had a system of a republic then it would be different. There the president forms the executive.

Thats a well said Reply by the Honorable Prime Minister.. but people saying that he said those words because he things udp gonna loose.. but that is not the message it has on the speech.. he is just thanking the supporters for all the support and stressing the fact that his governance has done so much for this country… he is not saying he feels he will loose this time.. but anything can happen.. everyone needs to prepare for the unexpected.. but i am sure he is well seated and confident in that his party can win AGAIN and if do so be it.. that his Party can Delivery more on another term to come.. that’s how i see his Response.
