Clive Jones Freed of Lengthy Burglary Sentence

The court set free today Belize City resident Clive Jones; Judge Adolph Lucas made that ruling in an inferior case in the Supreme Court. Jones was convicted of burglary and sentenced to seven years and had already served one year and nine months of his prison term. But today Justice Lucas quashed his conviction and found him not guilty.  Jones was convicted on February eighteenth, 2014 before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith for entering as a trespasser, the house of Gilbert Henry but he fled when he was surprised by the house owner.   At his inferior appeal, attorney, Anthony Sylvester was successful in arguing many grounds including that neither police nor the house owner presented any evidence of the intent to steal.  Judge Lucas after quashing Jones sentence, pointed out that under the Summary Jurisdiction Act, the police should have charged Jones with entering a premise without reasonable and lawful excuse and not with burglary.
