Hospital’s Chief of Staff resigns
The crisis at the K.H.M.H. was sparked when the Chief of Staff, Dr. Khalid Ghazy, was let go but subsequently reinstated to meet one of the demands of the B.M.D.U. This morning we spoke to Ghazy, to find out how the hospital is coping. We also found out that the Chief himself has resigned because as he put it, he can no longer work with the Board.
Dr. Khalid Ghazy, Chief of Staff, K.H.M.H.
“We try to utilize the existing staff because they came in after weekends and the weekends are very hectic so we have staff on leave right now. They are like off for the day after the weekend so we are trying to cover with the existing staff for today. Basically, we have all the basic speciality functioning and we have some specialists and medical officers on board so I think we can cover accident and emergency without any problem for right now.”

“What about just the hospital?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“It’s being covered. The round was done this morning. Patient was discharged, patient was taken care of, medication was disbursed, x-rays everything was serviced in that matter.”
Marion Ali
“The doctors that were working from last night at the A&E section, have they been relieved?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“Yes, I did relieve them and it might be a little bit late. Between eight-thirty and nine o’clock they were relieved and the staff was replaced.”
Marion Ali
“But if this persists, obviously your doctors will be overworked. How will the hospital handle this?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“We try to get some assistance from some medical officers from the region that’s gonna help at least to cover the Accident and Emergency and basic speciality that we have.”
Marion Ali
“Some patients were turned back this morning for specialist care.”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“Yes we do have couple of clinics that were cancelled this morning because of the call in sick.”
Marion Ali
“And that will remain so for how long?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“Well, I am not aware of how long this is gonna be Marion but I hope that something will be resolved as early as tomorrow.”
Marion Ali
“Some questions came up this morning about your remaining here at the hospital. Are you considering resignation?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“I did submit my resignation Friday and I think it’s in the process of being accepted.”
Marion Ali
“And it’s based on?”
Dr. Khalid Ghazy
“I don’t think, Marion, I can work with this board. This is something—because we have lost the trust and I am sorry I cannot work in the environment that you are not feeling very happy with.”
Doctor Ghazy has been at the K.H.M.H. for three years. His resignation takes effect on August tenth.
