PM Says Addressing Corruption in Immigration Will be an Ongoing Fight

Dean Barrow

There will be a Senate meeting on Wednesday when a request will be made to conduct an inquiry into allegations of corruption at the Immigration Department. Those allegations have resurrected in the wake of a scandal involving fugitive David Nanes Schnitzer, found with every manner of Belizean ID issued under a fake name, David Banes. Scandals at the immigration department never seem to go away, and at the last House meeting PM Barrow told the media that even when they have tried to lock down the department, that corruption seeps through.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“That was the idea but my God man you’re talking about incentives that are fantastical almost from what I hear and so it’s not ever going to be easy to lock down that place and I think the tighter you squeeze the more the incentivization assumes gigantic proportions so it clearly is going to be a continuing challenge, a continuing fight.”

Now you gonna look into it. Seriously??? You had Penna that you gave a slap on the wrist and Castro nuff said. And now you have these two incidents. While Belizeans are getting the run around for a passport. The best is yet to come right? Shaking my head.

Please make urgent investigation on the smuggling and considered to be human trafficking at the Western border. Reliable reports indicate that some Senior Officers recently in charge of the department at the Western Border are abetting to this practice and collecting thousands of dollars.

How can a Prime Minister say that it will be difficult to crack down corruption at the immigration? Is’nt he accepting incompetence? Deal with the people involved in the department fool. No tell we you can’t do this. I know of a number of immigration officers who over night are getting rich and this include customs department officers. Now if you know and you don’t want to crack down on it , then its another story. You are a part of it.

  5. Marie says:

Remove all immigration officers that have been there for 3yrs, retrain other employees and get a new start on immigration employees reform.
