Psychiatrist: child rape usually about power
It is always disturbing whenever we hear that a child has been sexually abused and the pain and fear these helpless victims experience is difficult to imagine. The question is: what would possess anyone to hurt such a small defenceless human being? According to Doctor Roy Lopez, a psychiatrist at Universal Health Services, while he is not familiar with today’s reported incident, in general, most persons who commit such acts do it for one main reason.

?The number one reason would be empowerment. This person is trying to have some power over his victim. Obviously he had not been taught to handle things on his own when he was younger and maybe he was called names by his folks and never thought much about himself and here is a time, an opportunity, to take advantage of someone who is helpless. So this is one way eh can show how powerful he can be like going after someone like that.?

?What are some of the signs that parents should look out for that would tell them that their child, their little boy or little girl is being abused??
Dr. Roy Lopez
?Well, there could be a number of things. Watch how the child reacts in his presence. If the child is not sitting properly, that may be a sign that something has happened; if the child doesn?t want to be close to him or if the child cries when she sees him around. Those would probably be some of the reasons for which you would suspect that something may be happening.?
The police advise parents to educate their children about good touch and bad touch and the need for them to come forward whenever anything bad has happened. The parents or guardians should then make the report to the Police Department as soon as possible.
