Cop Drops Charges After ATM Card Was Stolen

Ervin Zelaya

Two sisters who claim they found a cop’s ATM card on the street are home free from a charge of theft. Twenty-two year old Chelsea and twenty-one year old Monique Martinez along with a third person, Ervin Zelaya, settled out of court with Corporal Bonifacio Rash. Zelaya was charged with eighteen counts of theft and eighteen counts of forgery for swiping the card eighteen times in a one-day-spree in which close to a thousand dollars were spent. The police tracked the suspects after viewing a surveillance camera at the store of a Chinese businesswoman. Today, the Corporal Rash after collecting seven hundred dollars from Zelaya dropped charges even though he admitted using the card. The remaining two hundred dollars were recovered from the store where Zelaya had swiped the card. In court, Chelsea said that when they found the ATM card, she tried to reach out its owner but between her communications with the cop, Zelaya took the card and went on a spree.   Both sisters said they never stole the card so they can’t understand how they were even charged with theft.

Credit cards don’t have phone #, so I don’t believe your story, the best thing was to take it to the bank.

  2. monique says:

FIRST OF ALL…it was not a credit card but a debit card that was clearly stated in the news and tho it was ot 100% accurate it clearly said “atm” card…SECONDLY…cards contains full birth names of card owner…so you cant go wrong…the card was found and then took home where it was considered in safe keeping whilst card owner was being located on fb the world media…the umber was registered on the facebook account the owner was then contacted and was asked to pick up the lost card which he failed to do…roomate tooked the card…swiped the card…the persons who found the card then hard to bear the fault of the roomate…capiche??? i see logic in Belize is of scarcity! 🙂

@monique, I have some very valuable swamp land if you are interested. Gullible much? Never the less, you can believe these lies if you want. But those girls knew what they were doing therefore they should be held accountable. I agree with Marie, they should have returned the debit/atm card to the bank and not home to give to their roommate to go and swipe at will. Sounds like a set up.

  4. Marie says:

Bottom line once again, the card should have been delivered to the bank, people have same name or have you forgotten about identity fraud. The persons that accepted the card should be charge for not checking it against the ID, to make sure it was the rightful owner

you people amuse me…if the young man was charge for theft and they saw him no the camera on the said date witness saw the two female suspects out…how on earth can they be responsible for the card…furthurmore…evidence was submitted that the female suspects infact reachout to return his possession…someone with intents to keep anothers belonging does not reach out to the owner …indeed Belizeans are naive …just saying…you guys need to use your noodles!

@Renae go drown in your own swamp as you drown on whatever garbage the media pushes to you…if you havent seen the disclosure personally this isnt your turn to talk…maybe next election…if the bank wasnt open at the time as the time is not stated where would they take it…to your door step? point is …the young man admitted he did this act alone …the females became accessories to the act because they innocently found the card and was trying to return it…
