Will Containers of Guyanese Rice be Released by BAHA for Christmas Season?
If granted, a judicial remedy in the form of an order from the superior court will succeed. While Attorney Banner is optimistic that the matter will be heard in the days ahead, the Caribbean Court of Justice has not been considered as the last resort to settle the dispute.

“So it’s an application for mandamus?”
Leroy Banner, Attorney for RC Imports
“Yes. But first, basically we need the court’s permission to get to that stage so the application is basically to ask the court permission to seek judicial review.”
Reporter
“No consideration about taking the matter to the CCJ?”
Leroy Banner
“We will see what happens first, at this stage we just want the containers to be cleared then from there I’ll have to take instructions from my client.”
Reporter
“Has there been any conversation as to when this case will be heard?”
Leroy Banner
“No. No. What happened is that the registrar will send it up to the judges and they will decided on which date to give us. We hope that it would be next week because it is the Christmas season and we want the goods to be cleared as quickly as possible because our client is losing out in terms of sale.”
Reporter
“And you’ll soon have to start paying fees for storage.”
Leroy Banner
“That is so, yes.”
At news time it is known that Charles’ application for judicial review will be heard on Thursday morning before Justice Young.
Fuel Prices Are Increasing After X-Mas Weekend
So, here’s our Christmas gift to you – it’s a tip: if you own a car and have some cash, go and gas up before Sunday night. That’s because at 12:01 am on Monday morning fuel prices are going up – and by more than a few pennies.
Diesel is going up by 81 cents, regular by 97 cents, and premium by 72 cents. That’s a sharp and surprising increase. Surprising because world oil prices are at a 14 year low – and also because prices have been trending down since November.
The year’s lowest price for regular was recorded on November 28th at seven dollars 38 cents a gallon, and the year’s lowest price for diesel was recorded just a few days ago on December 16th.
