No Update in Swaney Murder Investigation
On Thursday, January fourteenth, ABC7 Chicago Executive Producer Anne Swaney was murdered on the grounds of the Nabitunich Resort in San Jose Succotz. Her senseless and brutal killing created shockwaves locally and internationally, and at one point F.B.I. investigators combed the grounds to assist with the investigation. But two weeks later, there is nothing new to report, no leads being followed and no suspects. This morning we spoke to Western Zone Commander, Superintendent Andrew Ramirez. He told News Five that it’s been a difficult case to investigate.
Supt. Andrew Ramirez, O.C., Cayo Police
“So far the investigation basically is a challenging investigation. Up to this present moment the investigation continues as any other murder investigation. We are trying our utmost best to resolve the matter. We do not have any more than you guys already have as a part of the investigation. This is indeed a challenging case due to its remoteness and isolation.”

“The release of the Guatemalan national…was that what Police would have wanted in this case?”
Supt. Andrew Ramirez
“Well Mike the initial detention of that individual…he was detained pending the investigation of that murder. But we must be guided that the Police has a number of hours that you can hold somebody for investigation purposes, which would be forty-eight hours. The person had exceeded his forty-eight hours and as a result he was handed over to Immigration for Immigration offences. Regrettably that was the situation with that Guatemalan individual.”

“And in terms of the swabs which were taken during the post-mortem examination…could you tell us if those have been sent away for testing? Have you gotten anything back?”
Supt. Andrew Ramirez
“I have no comment in relation to that matter right now.”
WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT SWABS…PERIOD.
