Vehicle Stolen from ASP Selvyn Tillett to be Returned to Belize
Assistant Superintendent of Police Selvyn Tillett was robbed at gunpoint on Valentine’s Day and relieved of his son-in-law’s pickup truck while in his hometown of Benque Viejo. ASP Tillett was held up by a pair of armed men who stole the white late model vehicle and fled across the Guatemalan border. Despite prompt and efficient police work, the 2014 Mazda was located in an area ten miles away from Melchor known as Camalote. Retrieving the vehicle however, has been somewhat of a headache, as it has been over a month and a half since it was impounded at the Melchor Police Station. The good news for the family is that the vehicle, which remains intact, is scheduled to be returned to Belize this Wednesday.
What about the other vehicles that were stolen before that? Those other vehicles are being driven freely in Melchor de Mencos and San Benito, Peten. That is why I don’t know whether to laugh or get angry when the Belize Government says they have good working relationships with the Guatemalan authorities, who only rejoice when their people come to commit crimes in Belize and hurry go back to Guatemala.
