An Investigation into Allegations of Police Brutality in Ladyville

Following the arrests of Trevor McFoy and a seventeen-year-old student for allegedly robbing a gas station in Scotland Half Moon, officers attached to Rural Eastern Division have come under fire for reportedly beating up the two suspects.  Both young men were arraigned before Magistrate Deborah Rogers on Monday.  Immediately after their court appearance, Senior Counsel Richard ‘Dickie’ Bradley came forward with an allegation that his client had been manhandled while in detention in Ladyville.  McFoy and the minor insist that they were beaten to a pulp by officers at the station and were denied medico legal forms following the incident.  This afternoon, Assistant Commissioner of Police Edward Broaster, Commander of Rural Easter Division, told the media that the Professional Standards Branch has been called in to conduct and inquiry into the matter.

“I want to address the matter where Mr. Bradley is accusing the Rural Eastern Division of police abuse of his client.  It is unfortunate that at the time when Mr. Bradley visited this station I mentioned to him that our cameras at the station only records for seven days.  I understand that he made some allegations, was it yesterday?  And unfortunately, the DVR does not record for more than seven days but we will fix that and when we do fix it we will not disclose the length of time that the DVR would record, so that we won’t have complaints coming after the recording period, and the complaints can come long before.  I was aware of the individuals making complaints against the police officers and as a result of that I have directed the Professional Standards Branch to do an independent inquiry into this matter so that we don’t have any biases as it relates to that allegation that is being made by both McFoy and the other suspect.”

McFoy and the teenager were charged jointly with three counts of robbery upon businessman Benjamin Schrock and his customers. While the teenager was granted bail, McFoy was remanded to prison for firearm offenses in connection with the incident.
