Belize Sign to be Launched in Fort George
A second Belize sign, similar to the multicolored monument prominently on display at the Seashore Children’s Park in Buttonwood Bay, will be inaugurated by the Belize City Council on Wednesday. A brief ceremony is set to take place near the Baron Bliss Lighthouse at ten a.m. and finishing touches were being applied to the sign late this evening. But controversy is already brewing over the design and funding. News Five understands that a plaque which has been erected next to the sign is the subject of a possible dispute between attorney Estephan Perrera and the Belize City Council. Now, Perrera claims he is responsible for the construction of the initial sign and that the design is his intellectual property. He says that the sign adjacent to the Animal Park could not have been built without his input and as such his name, as well as that of the individual who funded the project are affixed on the plaque. We are informed that earlier this evening, Perrara was told that the sign does not belong there and will be dismantled overnight, ahead of Wednesday’s ceremony. We will follow this story on Wednesday and have an update.
I don’t think anybody filed any copy right over a Belize sign. Its a nice idea the first person who decided the build the first one but there are country signs all over in mexico and guatemala multicolored. Don’t fuss over bullshit. Come on!
