How Will Newfound Knowledge on Territorial Dispute be Taught in School?
While the objective of the countrywide campaign is twofold, emphasis is being placed on interpreting the information presented for future use in the classroom. According to B.N.T.U. National President Luke Palacio, the turnout of teachers was satisfactory and their engagement in the forum bodes well for the implementation of pertinent facts on the Belize/Guatemala issue. Palacio also responded to the challenge laid out by Ambassador Shoman for the Belize National Teachers Union to formulate a single position during a special convention to be held after the exercise.

“We are satisfied with our turnout. Again, like we said, the ministry had granted us the time off for today. For those who decided not to come it‘s entirely up to them, that is their decision. We would have hoped though that they would have taken and made use of this opportunity because as you all would have observed it was a very educational and informative session and that is the intention of the Belize National Teachers Union as we launch this Stand Up for Belize Campaign because this matter is of national importance and I think our presenters have underscored that. Our members who are present here, those who have asked the questions, those who are concerned also have indicated the importance of such an activity. And again, as you‘ve rightly said, it is the launch and within the next two weeks or so we will be engaged in some other activity that will foster this Stand Up for Belize Campaign to pass resolutions.”
