COLA Calls “Knee-jerk” Law a Gross Act of Cowardice

Geovanni Brackett

The grassroots activist organization known as COLA, Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, has been quiet lately. But today it re-emerged with a fiery release condemning G.O.B.’s new law, which we could probably dub Wil’s Law. The release blasts G.O.B., claiming that the, quote, latest action proves the government’s lack of priority as it relates to the issue of national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Instead of ensuring that illegal encroachments comes to halt, the government seeks to muzzle its citizens’ right to free movement in its own country, unquote. Today, COLA President Geovanni Brackett told us that the organization is awake, and ready to act.

Geovanni Brackett, President, COLA

“I think this kind of action by the government will wake any organization form their death. I think that it is really ludicrous to think that the government would go out of its way by passing a statutory instrument, a laws that prohibits born Belizeans from traversing the Sarstoon the river; our portion of the river. Now when you put it into context I believe you will see that the Guatemalan has put to record that well you see these people are coming again they are going to provoke us again into our waters according to the Guatemalans and when you have the government of Belize prohibiting its citizens from going out there. To me that can only signal internationally that our government is actually agreeing with the Guatemalans. I have done some research; I have not come across any other country that have taken such action whether it is Israel or Palestine, Guyana or Venezuela. I have never heard any Prime Minister of President, telling its citizens you are ban from going in there because that country is bigger. Venezuela is much more bigger than Guyana, and they are actually a half a million people there is almost similarities between Guyana and Belize. I think that this action by the government shows a cowardice, it shows the lack of priority because while we are prohibiting Belizeans from going into their territory we have failed to show that same vigor and that same zeal in prohibiting these illegal incursions and encroachments into our waters and our land.”

  1. Moses Benguche says:

The way I see it. Consider if Wil and his followers were allowed to go to the Sarstoon and the Guats arrest and/or shoot them.. The BDF intervenes and hell breaks loose. Then what? Isn’t it better at this time to avoid this scenario until we move our bishops and knights in place. We need to get our allies, Great Britain, the Caribbean members and all major political players before we make a move. Cuba has already signaled that they will intervene like they did in Africa, They still have a bone to pick with Guatemala for allowing the bay of Pigs assailants to train in Guatemala. Please people, let the professionals handle this situation. There are many things happening in the background that the ordinary joe blow citizen does not understand.

And the Belize press need to fight back on foreign minister Morales cry that a ppor boy was shot by the BDF. The Guats murdered a million indigenous indians from 1980 to 2000 and now they are crying about one boy shot in Belize territory while returning fire.
