Hospital workers take complaints to Minister
They are the frontline soldiers in the never-ending battle to heal the sick and maintain a healthy population. But tonight the nation’s public system medical workers are not a happy group. They have fired off a request for an urgent meeting with Minister of Health Vildo Marin to discuss what a press release from the group says are “urgent matters affecting the delivery of basic health care to the nation of Belize.” That meeting, we understand, has been set for Thursday. While there are several issues the medical staffs of both the KHMH and the regional hospitals want to take up with the minister, News 5 understands that at the top of the list is the persistent problem of the lack of medical supplies at most public institutions. The medical professionals, while declining public comment until after Thursday’s face to face with the minister, stated in their press release that the solutions to most of the problems they face lie, not with the respective regional hospital boards, but with the Ministry of Health. Thursday?s powwow between the Minister and health workers will take place at the conference room of the KHMH.
