Cop Remanded for Sexual Assault of an 8 Year-Old Girl
A police officer is in trouble with the law tonight, facing a minimum of twelve years to life imprisonment if found guilty of the act of a sexual assault upon a minor. Twenty-one year old Darren Martinez was arraigned late this evening for sexually assaulting a girl as young as eight years. The despicable act allegedly occurred on February twenty-first, 2016 in Belize City. Today in court, after objections by the prosecutor, Magistrate Deborah Rogers denied bail to Martinez. The prosecution objected on two grounds: the prevalence of the crime as well as the serious nature of the offense. Martinez’s Attorney is Oswald Twist who submitted that the accused is presumed innocent until proven otherwise and this client should not be deprived of his freedom without a conviction. But Magistrate Rogers told PC Martinez that the Supreme Court will decide on bail. Martinez was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until July twenty-second, 2016.
How many sexual assaults by police officers does this make now? The PD is a disgrace!
