Did Police Manipulate Plett Statement?
That investigation is the focal point of the allegation, and any official diplomatic action which may or may not occur as a result of it. Officialdom weighed in on Wednesday in the persons of C.E.O.s George Lovell and Lawrence Sylvester, representing the Ministries of National Security and Foreign Affairs respectively. There was a suggestion from the media that the San Ignacio Police may not have done a quite comprehensive investigation, an assertion fuelled somewhat by an account by Plett of his experience with them. Tonight, we revisit that comment from Roger Plett, and the official response to an allegation that Police may have somehow manipulated his statement.

“When we went in to the police station to give the report, I started telling my story and after a while, the guy who was taking my story, he went out of the room. I waited a good while there and when he came back in, it’s like he didn’t want to hear my story anymore and he at first had put on my statement, Guatemalan military men. But he changed all of that and changed it to men in camouflage uniform. And the whole time after that, he was questioning me, trying to twist the story, trying to make me change the story. But I said the same story every time. Later when they took me into the room, Officer Guerra and a couple people from the O.E.A., the head Mister Rosado in there too. They had me tell the story to them again and they were checking to see if I would tell them the same story I had given in the statement.”
Ret’d. Col. George Lovell, C.E.O., Ministry of National Security
“The Police should take statements from individuals. The Police should not tell the individuals what should be in the statements and should not put in the statements anything that the individual is not saying.”
Lawrence Sylvester, C.E.O., Ministry of Foreign Affairs
“Let me ask something about the mechanics of taking a statement…when you are giving testimony or giving a statement to the Police, the Police give it back to you and then you sign.”
Ret’d. Col. George Lovell
“As far as I know normally Police are quite professional and they know what they’re doing and this is the way they normally take statements, so to say that somebody influenced the actual statements…I don’t know.”
“As far as I know normally Police are quite professional”. Now that is funny! Have you ever had the misfortune of have to give a statement to the police? I have . . . and it was a joke. Instead of letting you write your own statement they unprofessionally listen to your story then scribble a paraphrase of what you said down (with their misspelling and incorrect grammar) and expect you to sign it. If you don’t, the process really gets bogged down. The entire process is extremely unprofessional and a violation of law. That is one of the main reasons that they lose 90+ percent of all their cases.
this two area bunch of laughable idiots really, they think we the Belizeans believe what they say or try to mumble. The chubby Sylvester seems lost of words and seems lame and for the other guy seems to be a more keen to lie and very good in diverting facts. Police hmmm professionals mein this two seem to live in another fantasy world really a police officer these days are drop out kids from school and some have bad spelling problems, unprofessional attitude worst dealing with serious matters.
This didn’t really happen, Guatemala is our friend and no illegal border crossings happen; ever! Do we even have a border, do we even have a government?
God help us!
I think the plet plot is a lie. If indeed they were GAF, plet would not have made it back home. He just wants to escape charges for the damage he has cause to the forest.
