P.U.P. Leader Says Matter Could Have Been Settled Long Ago
Briceño disagrees, vehemently, stating that only the previous owners and the Barrows have benefitted from the appropriation of B.T.L. and from the PM dragging the matter out for seven long years.
John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader
“I can vividly recall these words that the Prime Minister so eloquently spoke at his press conference of September fourteenth 2015 after he had already signed the secret Barrow/Ashcroft Accommodation Agreement in Miami and I quote, “We will no longer seek to skip and jump and dodge and run and postpone the inevitable for another day while interest continues to run.” End of quote. In other words, what the Prime Minister stated was a clear indication that he knew all along that the people of Belize would be saddled with over half a billion dollars in debt all because of his ego, his arrogance, because of his hubris and his quest to win a third term in government. There is no good reason other than being bullheaded why this issue should have been dragged out in the courts for over six years. There is no good reason why the Belizean people will now have to pay half a billion dollars for a company that is valued only one hundred million dollars. As Jules aptly pointed out, Dean Barrow agreed to pay Ashcroft more than he actually asking for. Sober minds would ask why the Prime Minister and his incompetent U.D.P. gave away so much of the people’s money to buy ‘puss inna bag.’”
