Taiwan Donates to September Celebrations
Today at the Office of the National Institute of Culture and History on Rectory Lane, the Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize handed over a forty-thousand dollars cheque to the Co-Chair of the National Celebrations Commission, Diane Haylock. The donation will assist the celebrations commission with its programming for the annual September celebration activities, specifically the Carnival King and Queen Competition and the Pan Yaad Steel Band Concert. Haylock explains.
Diane Haylock, President, NICH
“The September Celebrations are almost upon us; I can’t believe that we are already in the middle of July. You know the Government of Belize is the principal financial donor for the activities, but as is usually the case; the resources that the government provides are never enough. So as the entity responsible for the secretariat and co-chairing the September Celebrations, we always try to see how we can seek additional support and one of our stalwart, unwavering support has been the Embassy of Taiwan, who has donated generously to the case. As a result of that, we have a couple of the key events that that contribution normally supports. The two signature cultural events that are a part of the calendar that the monies are used for are for the Pan Yaad Steel Pan Concert and the King and Queen Competition.”
