Homeless, Hungry Man is Sentenced to 5 Years for Burglary
An elderly homeless man is spending his first night of a five-year prison term in jail tonight for causing damages of four hundred dollars during a break-in. Sixty-year old Codrington Carter entered the Mercy Kitchen here in our neighbourhood on Mercy Lane looking for food. To ease his hunger, Carter burglarized the facility, and for that he was arrested and taken to court. Carter broke into Mercy Kitchen on Wednesday triggering the alarm system. Today in court, he claimed he was hungry when he entered the facility causing a total of four hundred and fifty-six dollars in damages to the number of items, the property of Alexandriana Perdomo, Manager of Mercy Kitchen. Perdomo told the police that the she got a call from KBH, who alerted her of the break-in. She rushed over to her work place and where the police were holding Carter. He pleaded guilty to the charge saying that he went there to get food and was having curry chicken and cool aid when the police got there. According to Carter, he has a sickness that makes him eat all the time. He begged Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser for mercy on him but the court imposed the minimum sentence of five years for burglary.
He has secured food and shelter for the next 5 years.
Sorry Carter. You need to be politically connected. That way you can get away with murder. Pity you coudn’t have any of them over to your residence for “congratulatory” drinks.
