Government Vehicles Collide on Busy Highway

After nine this morning, there was a traffic accident on the Phillip Goldson Highway in front of Enrique Martinez and Sons Limited. It involved two government vehicles, a Ford Ranger Pickup registered to the Fisheries Department and a grader for the Ministry of Works. Both vehicles were traveling into the city and collided when the pickup was overtaking the grader on the right hand side of the road and the grader was making a right turn into the compound of the business. The pickup flipped on to its side, blocking the main entrance to Enrique Martinez and Sons. News Five spoke with Commander Linden Flowers who says that no one was injured in the RTA.

“The information that we gather is that around nine-fifteen this morning, a grader that is the property of the Ministry of Works was traveling on the Phillip Goldson Highway traveling from Napa Roundabout heading into Belize City. It was making a right turn into a business establishment from off the highway when at the same time a white Ford Ranger pickup truck licensed and insured and registered to Fisheries Department in Belize City was being driven at the time by Kareem Tucker from Fisheries Department. The pickup truck began overtaking the grader and at that point, the grader, making its turn into the establishment, the pickup truck collided into some portion of the grader causing it to lose control and flip on its side there, causing he ruckus this morning on the highway. No, no one was injured. Mister Tucker was traveling alone in the truck as well as the gentleman driving the grader, which we saw no damage on the grader—you know that is a heavy machinery that operates grading material. So the pickup truck received extensive damages and the matter is under investigation by the police. The matter is still under investigation, the police at precinct four is still trying to determine who is the driver at fault.  Yes, both vehicles are insure; I believe they are both insured with the same company and both drivers have their requisite driver’s license and so on. That will be a matter for the vehicle care unit of the government of Belize, but precinct four is prepared to proceed with charges against either or both of the drivers.”
