Mother of 3 Killed in Belmopan; Her Body is Discovered by Her Daughter

The most recent murder took place this morning and in the nation’s capital. A mother of three, Regina Williams was found partially nude in front of her house in the Las Flores area of Belmopan. It is believed she was raped and then killed by a person known to her. Williams went out on Sunday night to meet with friends, but before the night was over, she was dead. One of her children, a twelve year old daughter, made the gruesome discovery this morning. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A dreadful discovery this morning, by the teenage daughter of thirty-four-year-old Regina Williams, has left an entire family in shock.  Shortly before eight a.m., Williams’ eldest child came outside into their yard on Zultana Street only to find the lifeless body of her mother slumped on a landing in front of the house.

“She went out nine o’clock [last night] to La Cabana.  She never made it home.  And her daughter found her on the middle of the house naked and she said that her head was busted open and from there they told me that somebody raped her and killed her in front of the house.”

The mother of three left her home in the Las Flores area of Belmopan on Sunday night and literally went across the street to a nearby establishment to socialize with her friends.  It was something that she routinely did on weekends.  Sometime between midnight and three-thirty this morning, the unthinkable would occur.

“You mentioned earlier that her body was found this morning inside her house is it?”

“Yes, in front of the house.  My aunt owns a shop there and she was selling food.  Her daughter found her there, her twelve-year-old daughter found her there.”

“So you guys didn’t hear or see Regina since she left out on Sunday, is that it?”

“What happened, well I don’t really know all the details.  I know that they heard some screaming but it’s always usual to us because we always hear screaming because she lives in front of a club so we would always hear shouting and we didn’t know it was her.  That’s when they told us the details that it was her screaming and that’s all we know right now.”

When police were summoned to the scene of the discovery Williams was observed lying face down on the steps.  According to Melissa Burrow, a cousin of the deceased, police have one suspect in their custody.

“It’s a rather difficult moment for the family seeing as though they are grieving this loss, you know.  What are the police saying?  Have you guys been able to find out if there is a suspect involved here?  What do you guys have so far?”

“We have two suspects and actually they are friends of ours and they did tell us that they might be the persons but we’re not sure as yet.  They haven’t given us any details or anything yet.”

“Now describe Regina for us, this particular individual.”

“Gina is a very outgoing person, she has a lot of friends and she greets everyone even if you don’t like her she will still smile with you and show you about God and everything.  She doesn’t mess with anybody so it’s really a shock to us because she’s very friendly and she’s always lively, you know.  She doesn’t talk bad about anybody, you know, it’s a shock to us.  It’s really a shock.”

Belmopan Police would not comment on the case on record.  While an investigation continues into the overnight homicide, it is yet to be determined whether Williams was indeed sexually assaulted.  Likewise, it remains to be ascertained how Williams was killed.
