Was New GSU Head Mason’s First Bodyguard?

Flowers, in his account of meeting Mason, told News Five that the accused murderer bragged about having GSU protection when he first arrived in Belize a few years ago.  That protection was provided by no other than his successor at the GSU, Inspector Glenn Caliz.

“Yes.  But he had no money.  He is, like I said, Robinhood.  He steals from everybody and brings it and drops it at this table and then he is rewarded and he lives the lifestyle of the rich and famous.  But he is not necessarily a rich person.  He is a good thief, a good scamp, a criminal and nothing more.”

“So you are at his residence on this first occasion.  You’re there with Mr. Mason, you’re also there with your ex-classmate Mr. Jesus Castillo.  Describe to me what happened in that first meeting.  You guys discussed, you had drinks, what took place during that first interaction?”

“We’re on the veranda on the porch of his house and we’re discussing, so I ask him, I said how long it took to build the house.  So he said I built it.  I already knew that he purchased that house from somebody else but he is talking this big fancy talk. He has no respect for nobody because he stops at no one.  I mean, he told me, he said, “When I just came to Belize” he said, “I had the GSU as my personal bodyguard.”  And I said, yeah, I know all about that, you know, so I asked him who, because I wanted to know, and he said Caliz was my first bodyguard in Belize, who is now my successor.  Well they were chummy.”
