Doctors call for an independent audit
The B.M.D.U. also disclosed details of a fourteen point Memorandum of Understanding which they had hoped to sign with the K.H.M.H. Board on Monday. Union Secretary, Dr. Beatrice Thompson, says the document was not penned because the K.H.M.H. C.E.O. Dr. Francis Longsworth, Director of Finance, Carlos Perrera and the Chairman of the Board, Doctor Ricardo Fabro were at the meeting and a request for them to recluse themselves was not met.
The doctors call for an independent audit, with the auditors chosen by the Ministry and the B.M.D.U.; particularly relating to procurement of medical supplies. It also calls for a member of the B.M.D.U. executive to be represented on the Board. And now there is the issue with M.C. Pharmaceuticals, owned and operated by the wife of the Chairman of K.H.M.H., Dr. Fabro.
Dr. John Sosa, President, B.M.D.U.
“We wanted to show something on the Chairman of the Board and a connection and I think Channel Five has gone into more details with this and we’ve been speaking about it before. That is a phonebook. Doctor Fabers address and phone number looks like—you really can’t see it but like I said we’ll have it on the flash drive—there’s an address up there that says twenty-four Dunn Street and the phone number is the same and the company is M.C. Pharmaceuticals. It says bill to K.H.M.H. right. And as usual, everything we give them, they shoot down. They always have an excuse and I know they will find an excuse for the prices and the contracts; what I don’t know. Their excuse with this is that Dr. Fabro was selling to Central Supplies, government of Belize paid for it. But I want them to explain to me why it says bill to Karl Heusner, I don’t know.”
As it relates to the investigating team appointed by the Prime Minister, the doctors are objecting to the appointment of the Ministry of Finance Financial Officer, Donna Crawford. Crawford also sits on the Tender Committee, which approves the procurements for K.H.M.H.
