Police Forced to Release Suspects in Murder of George McKenzie Jr.

George McKenzie Jr.

Family members of the late George McKenzie Junior are preparing to lay him to rest within the next two or three days. But police are yet to charge the main suspects.  Since the stabbing death of McKenzie Junior, two well-known street figures linked to the George Street gang were detained and released after spending forty-eight hours in custody.  The police department is not getting the cooperation they were hoping to get to charge the men since no official statements have been made by any of the potential witnesses.  On the morning of August twenty-seventh, 2016, McKenzie Junior was socializing at the Soca Fete show at the ITVET compound in Belize City. He was ambushed from behind with one attacker holding him down while another stabbed him. McKenzie Junior ran for help until he collapsed and succumbed to his injuries. As we said, immediately after the stabbing, two men were detained, but have now been released. Police sources speak of credible information that the duo released was involved but don’t have enough to charge. One of the suspects accused was out on Supreme Court bail when the murder occurred. McKenzie Junior is the son of the late George “Junie Balls” McKenzie Senior, who was shot and killed on August twenty-seventh, 2007 at the mouth of Pinks Alley. He was the leader of Majestic Alley, aka “Pink’s Alley” Gang.
