Can McKoy and Chavarria Face Criminal Charges?

Attorney Bryan Neal represents five of the persons featured in the documentary. Today we asked him if based on their own admissions on the Faull murder, they stand to face criminal charges.

“All Belizeans should be offended by that video; they should be concerned about the way that video paints this country. I think that authorities, people in high positions including people at the Belize Tourism Board should speak out and condemn that so called documentary for the way it paints Belize. As a Belizean I am very disappointed. But in response to your question, yes…some allegations have been made in the video; the most concerning my new client Mister McKoy who has said that he did not receive any five thousand dollars so that when Mister Cassian is saying he paid him five thousand dollars; that is not true. So there is no way that Cassian is any conspirator in any murder and Mister McKoy is here to say to the authorities today, please don’t try to pick me up because I didn’t receive no five thousand dollars and I was not even in the place that Msiter Faull was when he was murdered. So I could not do it. We are still in contact with an international firm, a U.S. firm. I don’t see how Showtime can get out of the fact that I asked them not to use my…If I am doing the news with you today Duane and I said, Duane please don’t use my image this evening cause I don’t think I want it to be used. How can you then say to Channel Five, no I will use that; I will use your image in a way that I don’t want you to use it? So we are still pursuing that angle, but until I have spoken to this firm in particular and we have agreed on a retainer, I would prefer to just leave it at that. It is going to go somewhere, but for now, let us see what the stance of Showtime is and let us get a retainer agreement between the firm and I. How can you lock up somebody for a fantasy? It is not a documentary as far as I can see, but I am not a movie critic. This is a fantasy video that was geared to let John McAfee look bad. In the process, it has smeared my country, it has smeared all Belizeans and I think we should all be concerned about the type of video that came out. That is not Belize at all. And if it can let our country look so bad Duane, imagine these people, my clients.”
