B.N.T.U. President Says Social Partners Must Remain United

The Belize National Teachers’ Union has argued in its response that Prime Minister Dean Barrow has tried a strategy of “divide and conquer” with the many groups flanking him on issues of national interest. For this reason, Palacio says, the non-Governmental organizations and social partners must remain united and keep the P.M’s charms at bay.

“We expect social partners to come onboard because again like I said, as the discourse continues, they concur with what we are saying; that indeed it would seem that yes, this group decides we have several issues. He will cherry pick and decide this is the pressing issue that you have. Let me deal with it and you can forget the rest. There were some serious untruths, if you will, in that address. And again, we are appealing to our members; when the government, when the Ministry of Education in particular…when the school managements decide that they are going to discipline those teachers, they are coming back to this union and we standing up for them, we are standing up for Belize. So listen to your union; support your union.”
