Roman Catholic Church Now Urges Teachers to Return to Classroom

Late this evening, the Roman Catholic Church stepped in line with the message from the Papal Nuncio. The Church says that they support the appeal for students and teachers to get back to the classroom. The release goes on to say that there are other means besides strikes that can be used to pressure the government for reforms to insure good governance. The release from the church also made a major clarification; it says, that in order to avoid confusion in the future, all communications from the Roman Catholic Church in Belize will be signed by both the bishop and the auxiliary bishop.  If one or the other is unable to sign or out of the country, one of the senior priests Reverend Noel Leslie or Reverend Lawrence Nicasio will sign with one of the bishops. This is the desire of the Apostolic Nuncio.  No one else is authorized to speak in the name of the Roman Catholic Church in Belize.

Not this government , probably some other government yes. This government will only hear when the masses move against the government. That is what the teachers are doing and you see the government do not want to , formally, compromise. On another note. We know that students have lost a few days of classes. This is not strange. Teachers know how to deal with this cases and will always find the time to recover this time lost. How do you think they do whenever government closes the schools due to hurricane? Sometimes schools are closed for more than a week. Don’t let the government come with their fool. In 2005 these same politicians that are now putting the children in the middle to save them, were the same people instigating for the teachers to continue the strike. So what was good then, is also good now.

I got involved and more interested in occurrences in Belize in a little under two years ago. I was never interested due to the nature of politics and the mentality of a lot of the folks living there. I’ve been sentimental about certain issues but this one, you should see my face. Coming from an educated and devout catholic family and having a parent who was very involved in the catholic church locally and internationally, Papal Nuncio, you can “Expletive, expletive, expletive black expletive.” And may my parents and God forgive me. You have absolutely no idea of what’s going on in Belize and I’ve known Bishop Wright from I was a child and he respected the teachers, what they stood for , worked with them. He also valued the opinion and gave respect to my parent who was also looked up to in the Belizean community. All of a sudden, Bishop Wright has no authority and more than one person has to sign any correspondence coming out of his office. A few years ago when SJC did a fair and BFLA was invited, you nor anyone else had no objections to to letter written by Bishop Wright due to the beliefs of the Catholic church and what Belize Family Life Association represented; condoms, planned parenthood, maybe even abortions considering the circumstances. Sister Barbara, no offense to you, and I’m pretty sure you’ve paid your dues, but maybe I haven’t been around too long because you sprung out of nowhere. The Pallotine and Mercy sisters had the clout in Belize. They led by actions and were in the community working. Have you or anyone else ever heard of the tern “disestablishmentarism?” It means the separation of church and state and that’s the stance you need to take now Papal Nuncio. You aren’t around when innocent people are being killed, people are scared to be on the streets because of the thugs this government encourages, the gross stealing and corruption from top to bottom. BNTU STAND STRONG! My question is, WHERE ARE THE OTHER UNIONS? BTL SHOULD BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF THIS. If they strike, which they should, this brings more pressure. They might not think they’re not affected but when that money has to be paid, I guarantee you that there will be some layoffs there or salary freezes. Or, did they pay off the shop steward already; the lady who got married last year, can’t remember her name. For those of you who don’t know, some of our banks and our airport control system are still on the “dial up” system.” In other words, if BTL strikes, no wire transfers nor airplanes can fly in. That’s why air traffic controllers got their wishes last year when they started the go slow. Also, what happened to our local businesses and banks? What are you doing to help these teachers? Give them some incentives!. The North has done so. Teachers, canvas and solicit the businesses for help and if they don’t , DO NOT SUPPORT THEM FOR A FEW MONTHS. HIT THEM WHERE IT HURTS, IN THEIR POCKETS. Take your business to the Asians or to Chetumal. They too should have vested interest in the situation in Belize because in the longer run, they will be affected financially. Banks should have already announced deferred payments to you all. You are making a big sacrifice for your country and keep the pressure up. I’ve said before, they took all the “house niggas” to Belize .
