B.N.T.U. gets support from the Caribbean Union of Teachers
The B.N.T.U.’s strike got major support today from the region, the Caribbean Union of Teachers has written to the Prime Minister appealing to him to seek to bring an amicable resolution to the ongoing situation. According to the CUT the B.N.T.U. has been patient to ensure that the collective bargaining agreement process is preserved. In their letter they state “the actions of the government negotiating team demonstrate a lack of respect for this internationally accepted principle. Unnecessarily delaying a process that would regulate the working relationship between teachers and the employers is unacceptable.” The letter continues saying that the CUT cannot accept a situation where any government seeks to make workers worse off by failing or refusing to agree to make the necessary salary adjustments, that would enable the workers to cope in this economically trying time.
