U.D.P. Politicians Ask: What More Do You Want?

Tracy Panton

Panton and Finnegan maintain that good governance is an inclusive process which should see equal responsibility from each of the social partners.  They have since turned to the teachers to ask them what more do they want from government.

Tracy Panton, Area Representative, Albert

“I cannot understand how reasonably, when all these conditions have been met by the government, the government has acceded to almost every single demand that has been put forward by the B.N.T.U.   How now, at the eleventh hour, the B.N.T.U. cannot call off the strike?  It is unreasonable.  There is no reason for this to continue and they have received, they have gotten the assurance and the commitment at specific timeframe, specific dates that the government have provided in which this good governance agenda will be advanced…  Good governance is not just about the government you know, good governance is about the social partners, good overbalance is about the parents, all of us.  This is an issue that all of us need to participate in, it’s not a one-sided conversation.”

Michael Finnegan

Michael Finnegan, Area Representative, Mesopotamia

“Dehn wahn Integrity Commission.  God, we give dehn Integrity Commission.  Yoh want the Public Accounts Committee, you have gotten the Public Accounts Committee.  Yoh want the thirteenth senator, we bend ova back, we bend ova back and yoh get the thirteenth senator.  Yo wahn we sign the UN Convention against Corruption.  Lawd wih di gih yo dat too.  Yoh wahn di Occupation and Safety Health Bill di government is prepared to table that in the National Assembly in its original form.  Everything that you have asked for.  Everything that you have asked for with these eight points, we are prepared to give to you.  We have set dates, the prime minister set dates for them.  Weh else dehn wahn?  What else do they want from the prime minister?  Ah cyant tell yoh een ya weh else dehn wahn Jules.”

People who used to have some level of dignity while in the public service, loose it all when they get into politics. Shame on that woman.
