Another Law Firm Tapped to Represent House Speaker Against Attorney General
House Speaker Michael Peyrefitte filed suit against both the Attorney General Vanessa Retreage and the Auditor General Dorothy Bradley on Thursday. The suit arises from a three volume special audit into widespread scandals at the Immigration and Nationality Department. Peyrefitte wants the court to quash the decision of the Auditor General in publishing in the special audit that he was not authorized to sign as recommender on the passport issued to William Lindo. Furthermore, the Speaker is seeking an injunction to block the Auditor General and the Attorney General and any person or agent on their behalf from acting in any way on the report. This in effect is to prevent the Special Senate Select investigation into the audit report until the Supreme Court finalizes his suit. The investigations are set to begin on November ninth. Now, that is one side of this story in which the House Speaker is suing two senior members of his government. But there is another angle to this story, which in itself is another story. The Peyrefitte law suit was filed by none other than the law firm, Reyes Retreage of Eve Street. That is the personal law firm of Attorney General Retreage. So that in essence, Retreage’s law firm was engaged to represent the Speaker against herself in her capacity as Attorney General. How it got to this point is an incredible matter. After News Five broke the news, we were notified that there were legal manoeuvrings to replace the law firm of Retreage with that of Marilyn Williams Law Office on Dean Street.
