The Rise of Donald Trump is Democratic, Says P.M. Barrow

As we said earlier, Prime Minister Barrow was in New York last week when elections were held for the forty-fifth president of the U.S.  As you know, Donald Trump’s victory is a historic upset that has left many American cities in uproar. While the prime minister has congratulated President-elect Trump, he did acknowledge that Democratic rival Hillary Clinton was indeed the popular candidate.  Here’s how the PM explained his observation.

“Can you share with us a reaction to the United States presidential election seeing as though you were in New York at the time that Americans went to the polls?”

“Well clearly their democracy worked; the elections obviously were not rigged. And the fact that Mister Trump was able to confound all the pundits and posters is something of which he is no doubt extraordinarily and justifiably proud, we as a fellow democracy certainly congratulated the people of the United States of what was a peaceful election and we congratulate Mister Trump as the president elect.”

“What are you impressions of the man? He is currently in his country facing a show of no confidence from thousands of Americans.”

“Well I don’t know the man so I can’t really comment. The fact that there are these protests being mounted; that too is a function of democracy, but the man won. He may not have won the popular vote, but in terms of the electoral he won handsomely. So that’s the democratic process.”
