U.K. Lawmakers Come Together for Belize
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Belize has been reactivated. The group, whose purpose is to encourage and foster relations between the UK and Belize, has become dormant over the years, so an annual general meeting was held today to get the group going. Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords attended the AGM, where an election was held to put together a committee of five main members, led by a chairman and supported by officers, as well as an honorary president. Colonel Bob Stewart was elected as Chairman. He has served as a Commander in BATSUB in the late 1980’s and expressed his excitement about working with Belize again, though in a different capacity. Belize’s High Commissioner Perla Perdomo says that the reactivation of the group comes at a critical time for both Belize and the United Kingdom, particularly as it related to reliance on trade with the UK, for its sugar and banana exports as well as future trade and investment opportunities.
