18 Year Old Keona Ara is Belmopan Dump Murder Victim

Keona Ara

The identity of a female who was stabbed multiple times, her throat slit and then set on fire has been determined. Her body was found over the weekend at the Belmopan dumpsite by a caretaker.  She had been burnt beyond recognition, but tattoos on her arm have led police to her identity. News Five’s Duane Moody has the latest development on the murdered female.

Police believe that they have discovered the identity of the woman, whose body was found burning at the Belmopan Dump Site over the weekend. The news spread like wildfire when a caretaker, on routine patrol at the city dump, made the gruesome discovery sometime around three p.m. on Saturday.  The upper body and face were burnt beyond recognition, but it was these tattoos on her left arm that would determine the identity of the young woman. Around midday today, a family from Blackman Eddy in the west would travel to the morgue at the Western Regional Hospital to confirm their worst fears; the tattooed woman was in fact Keona Ara, an eighteen-year-old resident of the village. News Five understands that her mother, Sherlene Mai last spoke with her over the phone on Friday. An autopsy conducted on Ara’s body confirms that she was stabbed multiple times to the abdomen and her throat slit before she was set on fire. Police are currently following several leads at this time, but no one has been detained for this heinous crime. Investigations continue.

Come vacation in Belize! Such a wonderful place! Such wonderful people!

  2. Lisa Shoman says:

It is “Women’s Month”. The murder of Belizean women continues despite the “occasion” with little sense of outrage – save by a few on social media. The killing – and disposal – of 18 year old Kerona Ara, has to be a new level of low and a new depth of depravity, even for our Jewel.

“An autopsy conducted on Ara’s body confirms that she was stabbed multiple times to the abdomen and her throat slit before she was set on fire.” Her upper body and face were burnt beyond recognition.

Kerona deserves so much MORE than being known as the “Belmopan Dump Murder Victim” who had to be identified by her tattoo.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to her family and friends.

    Happy Women’s Month. #Womenslivesmatter

We are wonderful people. Crime happens everywhere, we can’t stop that.

  5. Concerned Belizean says:

Yes crime happens everywhere but the sad thing is that Belize is such a small nation for the amount of unsolved crimes and murders that take place there. It’s sad that the people cannot even be guaranteed their safety or justice when safety is violated. Why can’t the government at least put more into its people’s security?
