Cabinet nixes K.H.M.H. privatisation
Big time rumours of the imminent privatisation of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital have turned out to be much ado about nothing. A release from Cabinet indicates that at its meeting today a privatisation proposal submitted by Doctor Francis Smith was rejected. Private management, as opposed to a full buyout, was also ruled out for the time being, as the K.H.M.H. is presently in the process of strengthening its operations. The Ministry of Health has been instructed to keep Cabinet informed on the institution’s progress. In related news, Cabinet agreed to introduce the National Health Insurance Scheme early next year in the Toledo and Stann Creek districts. No details were released as to the extent of patient coverage or the source of financing for the programme.
